Oracle Critical Patch Update For Q2 of 2020

Oracle have released updates for their products that fix 397 security issues (including 15 Java fixes) in total. The updates are a part of Oracle's quarterly released critical patch update (CPU).

Detailed list of vulnerabilities with patching instructions can be read from Oracle CPU Advisory.

Next Oracle CPU is planned to be released in July 2020.

Out of Band Update For ASP.net Issue

Microsoft is going to release out of band update to address issue described in security advisory 2416728. Patch is scheduled to be released on Tuesday, September 28, 2010. More information can be read from related entry of the Microsoft Security Response Center (MSRC) blog.

Updates For Adobe PDF Products

There has been detected critical vulnerabilities in Adobe Reader and Acrobat PDF products. One of the vulnerabilities (CVE-2010-0186) could subvert the domain sandbox and make unauthorized cross-domain requests. The second patched vulnerability (CVE-2010-0188) could cause the application to crash and could potentially allow an attacker to take control of the affected system.

Vulnerable are Adobe Reader 9.3 and earlier versions & Adobe Acrobat 9.3 and earlier versions. Users of Adobe Reader are recommended to update their versions to 9.3.1. For those Adobe Reader users who can't update to this version Adobe has provided Adobe Reader 8.2.1 update. Fresh versions are available here.

The Five Essential Security Patches of 2009

To find out the most essential security patches of 2009 Computerworld polled a panel of patch and vulnerability experts to find the five security fixes everyone should deploy from the last 12 months.

The five essential patches are:
- Microsoft's ATL fixes, July and later (MS09-035)
- Latest Adobe Reader patch (here, at the moment one from October but Adobe has promised new patch in the middle of January)
- Microsoft .Net Framework, October (MS09-061)
- SMBv2, October (MS09-050)
- Conficker patch (MS08-067) from last year but still essential to have installed
